White Bird
colored pencil and watercolor

2011
My fascination with the white egret began during my days of commuting to LSU via bicycle along the bird-rich habitat of University Lake. I was captivated by their elegant beauty and pure whiteness, and the egret remains my favorite of all the many bird species I have drawn. I never tire of exploring their lithe forms and finding the subtle color hidden in the shadows of their whiteness. The six drawings in the White Bird series were inspired by a particular egret who chose to fly into my front yard and graced my day with his presence.
These drawings are dedicated to the memory of Mary Lee Moreland Eggart. |
